Marks on Paper My interest in photography was born of my Grandfather’s passion for making photographs. Some of my earliest memories are of slide shows he gave, looking through the photographer’s books in his collection, and sitting for hours watching the magical ‘marks’ appear on photographic paper in his tiny dark room. My first camera, an Agfa Isolette given to me by my mother, helped me develop my own passion for making pictures. While I now shoot with a range of cameras - digital SLR, pinhole, box, holga, medium and large format - I really make no distinction in the method. The essential desire is, and has always been, to make ‘marks on paper’. That desire led me to a successful career in illustration and graphic design, gaining a Masters degree at London's prestigious Royal College of Art, and subsequently working on both sides of the Atlantic as an Information Architect. Over the last few years, however, my interest in making images with a camera has been loudly reawakened. So much so that photography has reasserted itself as the predominant medium now for me to continue making my marks. |
